PE and Sport Premium for schools confirmed
Posted 20th July 2020
It has been announced by the Education Secretary in the last week that schools in England will benefit from £320 million from the PE and Sport Premium during the 2020/21 academic year.
This premium is designed to aid children in getting an active start in their life as well as providing primary schools with quality PE and sport equipment enabling their pupils to experience the benefits of regular exercise. This includes becoming healthier both physically and mentally but also improved behaviour and academic achievement. This ring-fenced grant for primary schools is determined by a formula based on pupil numbers. The amount received per pupil for a one form entry primary school averages £18,000 per year. It has also been confirmed that any PE and Sport Premium funding from the current, 2019/20 academic year that has not been utilised can be carried forward to next year as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. This can then be used to add to their existing provision for next year or they can make improvements to the school that will benefit their pupils in future years.
