Changes to Northampton LA codes
From time-to-time local authority boundaries are changed for the UK for various reasons.
Although LA boundary changes will be confined with the boundaries of Northampton, a change in the LA boundaries for one of the countries can still be significant for the other counties in the UK.
The main impact will be to the schools that are allocated new LA numbers and, sometimes, new Establishment number, but there can also be significant impacts for pupils transferring between schools, e.g. CTF.
As you may be aware the eight existing councils were replaced with two brand new unitary councils on 1 April 2021. The new West Northamptonshire unitary council will serve the areas of Daventry District, Northampton and South Northants, and a new North Northamptonshire unitary authority will serve Wellingborough, Kettering, Corby and East Northants.
1 LA numbers will no longer be used
- 928: Northampton

2 new LA numbers will be introduced
- 940: North Northamptonshire
- 941: West Northamptonshire
Work required to your SIMS database
Schools that are affected by the DfE change will need to complete some work in SIMS, this will mean applying patches to SIMS database to enable editing of LA codes. In addition, you may be required to update SIMS ‘other schools’ in order to create & send CTF files.
SIMS Patch 26416: This will add the New LA Numbers into SIMS.
SIMS Patch 26428: This will update the list of school details within "Tools | Other Schools" for any Northampton schools with their new DfE Numbers. (Alternatively, these can be updated manually within SIMS.)
Schools within Northampton
We have scheduled for our SBS supported SIMS schools based in Northampton, to have the required patches and additional changes to your school details applied out of hours on either the 20th or 21st April.

Schools outside of the Northampton LA
For schools outside of Northampton, you will only require patches to be applied if you need to send pupil data via CTF files to any schools within Northampton.
If you have pupils that have transferred to another school within Northampton, then please let us know so that we can arrange to have these patches applied.
